Poinsettia a Plenty

Every Christmas I treat myself to a Poinsettia. It just doesn't feel like Christmas without them. So I was drawn straight away to the Festive Flower Builder Punch in the seasonal catalogue. It is part of a bundle with the "Reason for the Season" stamp set. They can both be used separately, but they are so very good together.

The first thing I did when my parcel arrived was to grab some cherry cobbler card and a snippet of crushed curry and to stamp, punch out and build a bloom - although of course, technically the red of the poinsettia are not flowers, but coloured leaves. See more here

I needed something to showcase this loveliness, so I created a gold box using my Gift Box punch Board and a simple cherry cobbler wrap, to which I attached my poinsettia. I was very pleased with the simple elegance of this gift box.

But the stamp set contains more than just the detail stamps for the punch. There are more poinsettias to play with

For this card, I stamped the outline stamp a couple of times and coloured them in with Stampin' Write markers. I cut the shapes out to create layers - all the image, then just the red, then the inner leaves and finally just the centre section -   and decoupaged them up. I mounted this onto a tag I had created with the scalloped tag topper punch (I love, love, love this punch) I stamped the poinsettia again over mossy meadow card to create a background topper. The tag had mossy meadow ribbon tied through it (now retired unfortunately) and one of the greetings from the set stamped on it. A bit of faux stitching and "Bob's your Uncle!" - I wonder where that saying originated from?

The same outline stamp, but this time  creating a watercoloured effect using ink and an aqua painter. I used a different greeting, inked around the edges and mounted it onto some gold DSP from the neutral collection and some gold mirri board. I bow from metallic bakers twine finished it off.

But this stamp set also gives you the opportunity to create a watercoloured effect with 2 step stamping.

First stamp the outline, then the green outer leaves using the matching stamp and finally the red inner leaves with the other stamp. A tip for helping to line the stamps up, both the outer green leaves and the red ones have 2 leaves that are close together, so use these are your guide.
This card has added sparkle because I used the 2-way glue pen and dazzling diamonds glitter to bling it up.

If,like me, you think that Christmas isn't complete without a poinsettia, perhaps you need this bundle in your life too. And of course there is nothing stopping you use different colours to create flowers of different colours for all year round.
